Mount Kailash
Mount Kailash is a peak in the Kailas Range, part of the Transhimalaya in Tibet. It lies near the source of some of the longest rivers in Asia such as Indus, Sutlej, Brahmaputra, and the Karnali River. It is considered a sacred place in Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism, respectively. The mountain lies near Lake Manasarowar in Tibet. According to Hinduism, Lord Shiva, the destroyer of ignorance and illusion, resides at the summit of a legendary mountain named Kailash. In Jainism, Kailash is also known as Meru Parvat, a site where the first Jain Tirthankara, Rishabhadeva attained Nirvana. Tantric Buddhists believe that Mount Kailash is the home of the Buddha Demchok
The entire parikrama of the Mount Kailash is about 105 kms and will take – 3 hours by bus.Walking around the holy mountain—a part of its official park—has to be done on foot, pony or yak, taking some three days of trekking starting from a height of around 15,000 ft (4,600 m) past the Tarboche (flagpole) to cross the Drölma pass 18,200 ft (5,500 m), and encamping for two nights en route. First, near the meadow of Dirapuk gompa, some 2 to 3 km (1.2 to 1.9 mi) before the pass and second, after crossing the pass and going downhill as far as possible (viewing Gauri Kund in the distance).
Lake Manasarovar
Lake Manasarovar is a freshwater lake in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. To the west of Lake Manasarovar is Lake Rakshastal while toward the north is Mount Kailash. As per Hindu theology, Lake Manasa Sarovar is a personification of purity, and one who drinks water from it goes to the Abode of Lord Shiva after death. Buddhists also associate the lake with the legendary lake known as Anavatapta in Sanskrit, where Queen Maya is believed to have conceived Lord Buddha. As per Jainism Kailash Mansarovar is associated with first Tirthankar Lord Shree Rushabhdev and is a place where Lord Rushabhdevji attained Nirvana
Lake Manasarovar lies at 4,590 m (15,060 ft) above mean sea level, a relatively high elevation for a large freshwater lake on the mostly saline lake-studded Tibetan Plateau.Lake Manasarovar is relatively round in shape with the circumference of 88 km (55 mi). Its depth reaches a maximum depth of 90 m (300 ft)
